Overview
Reddit partnered with Superside to create a high-contrast, emotion-driven App Store preview video that conveyed its value proposition of authentic community and real human answers over curated influencer content or AI-generated slop. It targeted people who still see Reddit as a text-heavy forum, plus Gen Z users living on TikTok and Instagram, leaning into Reddit's 18+ rating for a rawer, more unfiltered tone than those platforms allow.
The scope covered motion design and sound design within the App Store's strict 15 to 30 second limit, delivered at 886x1920 and later resized to 1080x1920 for Google Play. A follow-up project then updated the video's menu to a glass-style visual matching Apple's newer iOS design.

Challenge
Fitting Reddit's "realest place on the internet" positioning into a hard 30 second App Store limit meant constantly balancing UI-demo beats against copy beats.
The team tracked every beat in a shot-by-shot duration spreadsheet that established priorities, so when earlier cuts ran to 39 seconds and then 33 seconds in the animatic, we knew exactly which lower-priority UI beats to trim first without losing the hook. Designing within these constraints was part of the challenge itself.
Animation concept
The video relies on pure visual storytelling, with no voice-over or captions, paired with licensed music and UI-driven motion that represents the app experience itself in an on-brand way.
My approach to motion was to keep everything constantly fluid, with nothing ever sitting static, so the piece felt dynamic and held visual interest all the way through. It was delivered in separate cuts and aspect ratios for iOS and Android.
The follow-up update introduced a glass-material menu treatment aligned with Apple's iOS visual language.

My Role & Contribution
I worked across the UI adaptation, animatic, and motion stages of this project. I started by resizing the low-res storyboard artboards in Figma to the Apple App Store's required spec of 886x1920, then animated the sequence in After Effects, designing the motion so it could flex across two different platform resolutions from the start.
Once the App Store version was approved by the client, I adapted it for Google Play by placing the animation inside a phone mockup and re-adjusting the card transitions and UI dimensions to fit the new format.
After that first version was approved, the client asked us to update the iOS UI to match Apple's new Liquid Glass visual language, so I redesigned the entire menu sequence with a glass material treatment, using translucency, blur, and depth to keep it faithful to the current iOS look.
